The beginning of the Highest Hopes Foundation

Almost a year ago, not long after I took over the management of this blog, I published a post titled ‘Girls/Girls/Boys: LGBT anthem or insult? The debate.’ The post explored some of the issues fans of Panic! At the Disco had with their song ‘Girls/Girls/Boys’ but overall concluded that it has done much more good. One of the most important things the song did was bring fans together to create the Hearts Project that raised both awareness and showed support for victims of LGBTQ+ related crimes. Throughout the post, I made it apparent that Brendon Urie has always been in full support of the LGBTQ+ community and is always flattered when people use his music as an expression of their sexuality. After thirteen years working hard to build his career as a musician, and constantly thanking fans for their support, Brendon is now giving back by launching the human rights organisation: Highest Hopes Foundation.

On June 28th, Brendon took to Twitter and announced the beginning of an organisation that will work to support people who have been subjected to discrimination for their gender, race, sexuality, religion and gender identity. Highest Hopes Foundation will work alongside other non-profit organisations that have been developed to protect and support people’s human rights. Brendon has dedicated the founding of the organisation to all the strength, motivation and courage fans have shown him throughout the years. Already, Highest Hopes Foundation is being put into play by $1 from every US ticket purchased for the Pray for the Wicked Tour going to the organisation and fans being able to donate more by texting ‘GIVE’ to 50555 or visiting Since the organisation’s launch Panic! At the Disco have pledged $1 million dollars to the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and have made a promise to keep being a part of the fight against discrimination.

Being both a Panic! fan and a part of the LGBTQ+ community, it is utterly heart warming and inspirational to see these two worlds coming together. Brendon has always preached the importance of acceptance and shunned the ignorance people have to anything different, and Highest Hopes Foundation is only the beginning of amplifying this message to be heard through all the hateful noise still trying to deafen this world.
