Following the release of ‘Leki’, his debut album, Leytonstone lawyer turned rapper LEMZI is set for his first headline show this Friday night (11th January), hosted by East London venue Richmix.
LEMZI has been winning hearts and minds across the capital with his new-school brew of hip hop, soul, jazz and classic R&B, bringing a sharp but soulful journey through life in contemporary London. This debut show will be backed up by the Bandem, his super-tight four-piece group, with support from LAPP & 4i, Luke November, Laura Clavier, Kitch, HypeHyphen and Miss Dionne.
Having abandoned his plans to become a legal representative after his law and criminology degree, LEMZI has emerged as an unlikely hip-hop talent. Yet, his latest album ‘Leki’ has shown that the two paths are not inherently opposed in their pursuit of social justice.
In garnering recognition for the underlying themes of a stance against knife crime in his track ‘B.O.T.S.‘ (‘Blood on the Streets’) he draws upon his academic background to reflect upon a range of social issues and other thought-provoking topics (Brexit, knife crime, gang violence to name a few) in an attempt to galvanise today’s youth. This was picked up in a feature on Sky News at the turn of the year, which you can watch here.
