Jon Scott Captures Current Social Climate in Powerful New EP ‘Freedom – A New Jerusalem’

Celebrated singer and multi-instrumentalist, Jon Scott, is to release a brand-new EP entitled Freedom – A New Jerusalem, his recount of the racial prejudice in the world today.

With the title track leading the EP, the release comes at a perfect time to encompass the social climate of this year, encouraging people to stand up for their beliefs and rights through the lyrical and musical drive of the album, whilst celebrating the good in all of our differences.

Freedom – A New Jerusalem perfectly captures the worlds events of 2020 through Jon’s eyes, including events such as COVID-19 and the surge of support for the Black Lives Matter movement after the cases of police brutality in America. Originally inspired by Donald Trump’s plan to build a Mexican-US boarder wall, the social climate only fueled the musical process, adding more and more passion and emotion as the year went on.

Watch the powerful video for Freedom below, capturing the Black Lives Matter protests from across the globe.

Balancing his day job as a top lawyer at his own firm, Jon is a London-based singer-songwriter that combines influences from across genres, including soul, jazz and afro-beats, taking the listener through his own journey in Nigeria to coming to England as a young boy. Using this cross-globe upbringing, Jon makes music accessible to many different cultures through feel-good beats and familiar sounds.

“Out of all the craziness, hatred, spite and nastiness, the majority of folk all around the world marched together to stand up for what is blatantly right. It’s a seminal moment, era-defining and world awakening, particularly given the fact that this all occurred in lock down.

In particular, I hope that the video will be a picture chronicle for the world of this amazing uplifting of spirit particularly for the future generations, as a benchmark of what we should be about as all god’s children  or if one prefers, children of one creation and of the universe”.

Vocals, guitar and percussion on the track all come courtesy of Jon himself, who is first cousin to musical megastar, Seal. Other instrumentation and co-production duties are shared with Gordon Hulbert.
